So I was on twitter doing what most people do on twitter, check out my timeline when I saw retweet about Bill Gates. The very mention of Gates caught my attention and I clicked on the tweet to get a more clarified view.
It seems the prolific billionaire was on a trip to India to carry out work under Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The organization is noted for it’s philanthropic work in developing countries, helping the poverty stricken people and providing them with medicinal cost relief. Here’s a excerpt from their mission
Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, we focus on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.
So the tweet took me to a post on some other site which claimed to be stacking notes of Bill Gates. The entry was named ‘India’s Progress’, which made me chuckle and a instant ‘whateva’. I admit that we have grown as a nation, become culturally and religiously tolerant, lifestyle in some metros and towns have evolved, but where does this count when more than 60% of our population resides in villages. Most of this villages don’t have proper water supply and electricity. We are being tormented every single day by the incessant vile rascality of horny political babus. The scams, farmer suicides, constant bickering led us to believe that we are a nation stuck in slack tide with no sails or propellers. So when some rich billionaire after a month travelling across the country says it’s progressing, it vexes you and fondly you want to kick his ass for setting up a public caricature. But on the contrary it was an eye- opener.
The post mainly focuses on India’s health and medical facilities. In his post Bill thinks India’s is in a quiet hopeful situation. There are some parts of the article which may surprise depending on how aware and informative you are currently. There is also a mention of one of the pharmaceutical company in Pune which is a leading low cost vaccine manufacturer around the world. It was very unexpected to learn about the Government involvement and how they are constantly funding such causes. Of course this is just one aspect of the progress Gates is talking about, but it does make you feel good, a momentary conjecture that the ship is sailing.
